Training Layoff Scheme
The Government announced that R2,4 billion had been made available from the National Skills Fund for a scheme which would allow workers facing retrenchment to access training. While they would remain employed without any loss of benefits, they would be remunerated a percentage of their wages/salary, which amount the employer would not have to bear. The programme is handled by the SETAs that provide the money, and the CCMA that controls the agreements and the terms and conditions.
