IDC
The Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Ltd (IDC) is a national Development Finance Institution that was established in 1940 to promote economic growth and industrial development in South Africa. It achieves this by promoting entrepreneurship through the building of competitive industries and enterprises based on sound business principles. With its specialised knowledge and experience is able to offer valid and appropriate financial assistance to a wide variety of enterprises. The IDC recognises the importance of a dynamic private sector in securing and stimulating rapid and sustainable economic growth, creating employment and reducing poverty. It provides commercial loans of not less than R1 million and it operates in the following industries: Chemical and Allied Industries, Metals, Transport and Machinery Products, Wood and Paper, Techno Industries, Textile and Clothing, Healthcare, Food, Beverage & Agro Processing Industries, Mining and Beneficiation, Tourism, Media and Motion Pictures. The Workplace Challenge Programme (WPC)
Aimed at stable businesses between 15 -900 employees that want to increase the bottom line.
Take your business to the top with a Department of Trade and Industry (dti) funded programme that will increase your productivity and competitiveness.
The programme is aimed at improving productivity and competitiveness through:

Business Performance Improvement Workshop (BPIW)
Aimed at SMME’s that are operational for a minimum of 6 months.
The BPIW objectives are to improve profitability, growth and employment creation within SMMEs and Cooperatives.
The BPIW is made up of the following five critical modules which are trained over a period of time with action plans:

Wastage elimination.

Increasing sales.

Reducing operational costs.

Maximising profitability.

Establishing an Early Warning System (EWS).

Social Plan Technical Support
The Social Plan Technical assistance was one of the resolutions of the presidential job summit of 1998. The programme is intended to provide partially funded technical assistance to different organizations and companies to increase productivity, profitability and service, as well as to save and retain the current jobs.
The two programs are:
Turnaround Solutions
Turnaround Solutions which is geared for companies that are in distress.
Proactive Solutions
Proactive Solutions which is geared for companies that are not in distress but only need to sustain and grow.

Annual KZN Regional Productivity Awards

SEDA
The Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) is an agency of the South African Department of Trade and Industry (the dti). Seda was established in December 2004, through the National Small Business Amendment Act, Act 29 of 2004.
It is mandated to implement government’s small business strategy; design and implement a standard and common national delivery network for small enterprise development; and integrate government-funded small enterprise support agencies across all tiers of government. Seda’s mission is to develop, support and promote small enterprises throughout the country, ensuring their growth and sustainability in co –ordination and partnership with various role players, including global partners, who make international best practices available to local entrepreneurs.
