SOUTHERN AFRICAN INTERNATIONAL TRADE EXHIBITION (SAITEX)
KwaZulu-Natal is poised for growth with more local companies and agencies set to exhibit at this year’s Southern African International Trade Exhibition (SAITEX), according to Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN). SAITEX takes place between 15 and 17 July 2012 at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg.

“Last year, KwaZulu-Natal was represented by six companies. This year there will be four more companies exhibiting. There is growing interest from KwaZulu-Natal - mostly from the huge exposure and opportunities received from SAITEX,” says Zamo Gwala, Chief Executive Officer at TIKZN.

TIKZN is a South African trade and inward investment promotion agency, established to promote the province of KwaZulu-Natal as an investment destination. TIKZN has again procured a pavilion at SAITEX. In a bid to showcase more of what KwaZulu-Natal has to offer, the investment agency has reserved double the amount of floor space at this year’s show.

“By increasing their showing at SAITEX 2012, TIKZN is sending a very positive message, not only to other exhibitors and attendees, but the entire country. It shows that they want to be actively involved in the economy,” says John Thomson, Managing Director of Exhibition Management Services (EMS), the organisers of SAITEX.

Each year SAITEX hosts a huge variety of local and international exhibitors, from manufacturers, importers, exporters, entrepreneurs, traders, distributors, service providers and investment groups to government agencies.  In 2011, SAITEX hosted 479 exhibitors from 32 countries. “SAITEX offers a smorgasbord of offerings which appeal to different business interests and tastes,” says Thomson.

Local and international businesses and agencies know the importance of attending SAITEX, many of which return year after year. These include the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, India Trade Promotion Organisation, City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane, Brazil Ministry of Trade (MAPA) and other Brazilian organisations.

Speaking ahead of SAITEX 2012, Gwala says, “TIKZN will present ‘Destination: KwaZulu-Natal’ (opportunities in the province) to representatives of the various consulates and Gauteng companies exhibiting at SAITEX 2012”. He adds: “Sales will be generated from the exhibition stand and potential orders/enquiries generated will be pursued by TIKZN and the KwaZulu- Natal exhibitors.”

SAITEX gives exhibitors the opportunity to expand their reach, giving them access to different markets. As part of its mandate TIKZN aims to provide KwaZulu-Natal-based companies with such opportunities. “Companies should take such advantage of the various platforms created to market KwaZulu-Natal produced products,” says Gwala.

SAITEX attendees will have access to a free, easy-to-use internet-based business matchmaking programme, providing exhibitors and visitors with the ability to pre-profile, pre-select and pre-schedule meetings for all three days of both shows. Visitors can pre-register on www.exhibitionsafrica.com.

SAITEX is co-located with the continent’s largest food and beverage trade industry event Africa’s Big Seven (AB7). SAITEX and AB7 (2011) combined attracted a total of 14,650 visitors from 54 countries. This represented a 14.7% increase from the previous year.

SAITEX and AB7 run from 15 to 17 July 2012 at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg. For more information, contact Anina Hough at Exhibition Management Services, Tel: +27 11 783 7250, E-mail: saitex@exhibitionsafrica.com, Website: www.exhibitionsafrica.com
