Zinhle Sokhela is the founder and Managing Director of Sesifikile Booksellers (founded in 1998), a supplier of educational and academic material to government educational institutions throughout the country. She also runs BPSA [Pick n Pay] and Spur Group franchises in KwaZulu-Natal. She is a member of Kyomark Pty Ltd, with the main focus on infrastructure.
Zinhle served as the Director and Chairperson of Dihlase Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd. She also served as the Chairperson of the Pay on Time External Stakeholders Committee established by the then Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Dr Zweli Mkhize. She served on the Management Board of Business Fighting Crime. She is the Deputy Chair of Council for the Umgungundlovu TVET College and served on its Audit Committee and Property Sub-Committee and is a member of its Executive Committee.
Zinhle serves as a member of the UKZN Council and sits in various committees such as the Exco of Council, Audit and Risk Committee (and served as Acting Chair of Audit and Risk Committee), serves on the UKZN Membership Committee, emuneration Committee AND UKZN Foundation Board of Trustees. She is a member of the BP Dealer Council in KwaZulu Natal and also served as its Executive Committee member. She is also a member of the Comrades Marathon Association board. She serves as the Chairperson of the CMA Corporate Governance Committee and she is also a members of the CMA Legal and Constitution Committee. Zinhle Sokhela is also the Director and Deputy Chairperson of the Umgungundlovu District Economic Development Agency.
She is the Director and Chairperson of Safe City Msunduzi (Pty) Ltd, that installs, maintains and operates camera surveillance systems in order to detect crime in the areas targeted within the jurisdiction of the Msunduzi Municipality. Zinhle served as a Trustee of the Ekujabuleni Children’s Home in Edendale in Pietermaritzburg.
As the President of the PCB for two terms (2007 – 2009), she was a member of the SACCI Council and led a provincial business delegation to India to participate as a speaker in the 100th anniversary of the Indian Merchants’ Chamber, with which body she signed an MOU on behalf of the PCB. She also participated in a Gijima-funded study tour to Brazil in 2008.
Zinhle was awarded the Mayoral Award in 2003 in recognition for her outstanding leadership, performance and contribution in economic development. In 2006 she was awarded the HUC Award, in recognition again for her outstanding leadership and community involvement.
Zinhle has long been a supporter of the Chamber in Pietermaritzburg. Her business acumen is attributable to her inherent skills and her determination to master the various aspects of business management through education and training. She holds Master of Business Administration Degree and she is a member of IoDSA.
